Following the success of recent low-band operations by Z81X and OF9X, closely on the heels of Santa Claus and capitalizing on the current season of almost total darkness in Northern Europe, a sub-group of those two teams will be heading to Aland Islands…

Members of the Z81X and OF9X groups will soon  take advantange of the long winter nights in Northern Europe by operating from the Aland Islands as OG0A on 160/80 meters and the WARC bands.  The winter operation will be dedicated to the Youth On The Air July summer camp in Finland.  A definite schedule will be released shortly.  OG0A QSL via Martti (OH2BH).  Aloha de Russ (KH6JRM).

Justin Johnson (G0KSC) has confirmed the purchase of the Force 12 antenna company and the relocation of that company to Grand Junction, Colorado–the present site of InnovAntennas.  Johnson says his company (InnovAntennas) will make updated versions of classic Force 12 antennas, as well as design new antenna models.  The new XR series will have "a single feed point and anew high power "interdriven phasing array capable of handling 5 kw+."  Aloha de Russ (KH6JRM).

Society for the Preservation of Amateur Radio SPAR Announces Winter Field Day 2014 Not only during Field Day in June, do the bands come alive with improvised signals proving the ability to respond to emergencies.

Thanks to VA3QV for this story.  Ever since 2007, the Society for the Preservation of Amateur Radio (SPAR) has sponsored the annual Winter Field Day.  Like its distant cousin, the ARRL Field Day during the last full weekend of June, the SPAR event will test communications under field condtions–this time in the dead of winter.  The event will run from 1700 UTC, Saturday, 25 January 2014 through 1700 UTC, Sunday, 26 January 2014.  Be sure to bring warm clothing with you.  Aloha de Russ (KH6JRM).
