Russ Roberts‘s insight:

Even  mildly "backhanded" praise from government agencies is welcome these days.  Addressing the FOSE Conference in Washington, D.C., Adrian Gardner, the FEMA Chief of Information, said "tools like ham radios that seem outdated still need to be part of disaster response planning."  Gardner added , "Even though they’ve been surpassed technologically, old fashioned (radios) that have proven their reliability can add resilience during disasters."  Remind your uncooperative neighbors of this observation the next time they complain about that "unsightly" tower in your backyard.  Of course, the NIMBY (not in my backyard) syndrome is impervious to reason and facts.  No wonder this nation is becoming a country of button pushing technophobes.  That is only my opinion.  Your mileage may vary.  Aloha de Russ (KH6JRM).
