The Good News: Steve Case of Venice High School Amateur Radio Club
Longboat Observer
Steve Case, Emma Bonham, Paul Lesko, Luis Canas, Matthew Bersch and Rob Lash are a few of the members of the amateur radio club.

Russ Roberts‘s insight:

An upbeat, positive story about the Venice High School Amateur Radio Club in Sarasota, Florida.  Physics teacher Steve Case and Rob Lash started the club as " a way to appeal to students who were in math and science outside of just the classroom."  Case was also concerned about the hurricanes which wash across Florida at regular intervals.  He knew some kind of back up communications was necessary to serve his community once the cell phone towers went down.  Case decided the best option for the school and the nearby community was to establish an amateur radio club which would apply classroom lessons to "real world scenarios."  The high school club also does a variety of community service projects in the Sarasota, Florida area.  Aloha de Russ (KH6JRM).
