Amateur Radio Group Plans Demonstration Voices News REDDING — The Candelwood Amateur Radio Association will set up a field day site to demonstrate emergency communications capabilities from noon Saturday, June 28 to noon Sunday, June 29 at Putnam…

Russ Roberts‘s insight:

Over 35,000 amateur radio operators participated in last year’s ARRL Field Day communications exercise.  Hundreds of clubs, such as the Candlewood Amateur Radio Association in Connecticut, will set up field day sites on 28 and 29 June to test their emergency communications capabilities.  Most stations will be off grid, using battery power, generator power, and even solar power to get messages through.  Field Day is a public event, where residents, political leaders, and first responders can gain an understanding of the role amateur radio operators play in providing emergency communications in time of natural or man-made disasters.  If you’re visiting Connecticut on the last full weekend in June, be sure to drop by the field day site of the Candlewood Amateur Radio Association.  You can find it at Putnam Park.  Aloha de Russ (KH6JRM).
