Many of us have had the occasional problem with our computers and other devices retaining accurate time settings, but a quick sync with an NTP server makes all well again.

Thanks to reporter David Hall for pointing to this fascinating article on time.  The answer to the accuracy of NTP servers was provided by Michael Kjorling, who said a network of atomic clocks synced against “International Time or TAI”(itself an atomic clock of high accuracy) provides the basis of accurate time for NTP servers.  Once an exact time is found, the atomic clocks are connected to a network, such as the internet.  Aloha de Russ (KH6JRM).
