The American Radio Relay League (ARRL) is the national association for amateur radio, connecting hams around the U.S. with news, information and resources.

Russ Roberts‘s insight:

The FCC has amended Amateur Radio Part 97 rules to allow the granting of credit for written examinations for element 3 (General) and element 4 (Amateur Extra) to holders of “expired licenses that required passage of these elements.”  Those holding expired licenses in the above classes will be required to pass element 2 (Technician) in order to be relicensed.  The FCC feels that a retest of element 2 will insure compliance with existing rules and regulations.  This step will give some relief to former holders of the Advanced and Amateur Extra License classes who have fallen out of the 2-year renewal window.  The administrative and testing procedures remain to be worked out.  Aloha de Russ (KH6JRM).
