An excellent example of local government working with amateur radio operators  to help emergency communications.  Fergus Falls , North Dakota officials agreed to transfer usage rights of two antennas atop the city’s water tower to the Lake Region Amateur Radio Club for SKYWARN purposes.  The old antennas were rendered obsolete for public service communications by a FCC mandate requiring fire and police departments to use narrow band equipment.  The old antennas are being repurposed for amateur radio repeater operations, primarily for the relaying of storm and weather data to the National Weather Service.  The "new" antennas will help amateur radio operators in the region expand the coverage of their SKLYWARN activities.  A definite "win-win" situation.  Aloha de Russ (KH6JRM).
