One of the highlights of any ARRL Field Day is to contact W1AW, the originating station of the American Radio Relay League, founded in 1914.  W1AW was Hiram Percy Maxim’s call sign and has served as the core and heart of Amateur Radio in the United States.  The article describes the activities of the Sky Valley Amateur Radio Club (W7SKY) and its contact with this country’s pioneer amateur radio station.  The article does a good job of describing what amateur radio is and what it offers to local communities.  Aloha de Russ (KH6JRM).
