The International Lighthouse and Lightship Weekend (ILLW) will be held this Saturday and Sunday (16-17 August 2014) at historic sites around the world.  The Orleans County Amateur Radio Club of Batavia, New York will set up a special ILLW station near the Oak Orchard Lighthouse and will operate 8 a.m.-6 p.m. (local time) Saturday and Sunday.  The purpose of the international amateur radio event "is to promote public awareness of lighthouses and lightships and the need for their preservation and restoration."  Last year, the Orleans Count Amateur Radio Club made over 350 contacts worldwide.  Aloha de Russ (KH6JRM).
