A nice, compact history of Amateur Radio Emergency services in the United States from the 1913 floods in Michigan and Ohio to the evolution of the 1935 ARRL  Emergency Corps and its eventual successor, ARES, in the last half of the 20th century.  Good, basic information.  Aloha de Russ (KH6JRM).
