Islamic Republic of Iran IOTA DXpedition

A multi-national team of amateur radio operators from Belgium,

The Netherlands and Greece will be active as EP6T from Kish Island (AS-166), Islamic Republic of Iran, during the last 2 weeks of January 2015.

This will be a ‘Rockall DX Group’ DXpedition. Reportedly, it took nearly 3

years of negotiations and a reconnaissance trip by Patrick, ON4HIL, to

Tehran which finally resulted in obtaining a legal license to operate with a team of ten people for fourteens days.

The 10 operators mentioned are Marc/ON4AMX (Finance), Henk/ON4AFH (Travel and Logistics, Carlo/ON4BR (Logistics), Patrick/ON4HIL (Team Leader), Luc/ON4IA (Low Band Specialist), Marc/ON6CC (Webmaster), Wim/ON6DX (Propagation), Frank/ON7RU (Multi-Media), Ronald/PA3EWP (Sponsors/PR) and Kostas/SV1DPI (Shack Manager).

Pilot stations are Theo/ON4ATW (E-mail: ep6t@rockall.be) and Bjorn/ON9CFG.

The group plans to have 4 (possibly 5) operating stations on the air

around the clock for at least 10 days. Specific dates will be announced

at a later date. Activity will be on all HF bands, 160-10 meters using

CW, SSB and RTTY. Some stations during the night time hours will be

focusing on the low bands using separate receive antennas and quarter

wave verticals near the beach. They expect to make around 85,000 QSOs.

They will use ClubLog for online logging (if Internet is available) and

OQRS (QSL requests). A few days after the DXpedition the logs will be

uploaded by their QSL Manager to LOTW. QSL Manager is Tim Beaumont,

M0URX: P.O. Box 17, Kenilworth, Warwickshire CV8 1SF, ENGLAND. All QSLs via the OQRS, by the Bureau and direct, will be answered as usual.

The EP6T Website is now available with more information, as well as a EP”need” survey at: http://www.rockall.be

They have also have a Twitter account: https://twitter.com/@RockallDX

From now on they will update their Web site and Twitter pages on a daily

basis if there is some information to share.

Thanks to three years of negotiations and a final reconnaisance trip by Patrick (ON4HIL), a license has been secured from the Islamic Republic of Iran to operate an IOTA station from Kish Island AS-166). A team of 10 experienced contesters will operate EP6T for two weeks in late January 2015. For details, visit http://www.rockwall.be.  This should be an excellent opportunity to put a fairly rare contact in your log.

There are some excellent DX possibilities in this current IOTA report.  Among them are AF-019 (Lampedusa Island); AS-166 (Kish Island, Islamic Republic of Iran–tentative callsign is EP6T); EU-047 (Pellworn Island).  The Iran operation should be interesting if all the pieces fall into place.
